Field officers

The World Horse Welfare UK Welfare Office handles many thousands of calls every year. Many of these are from members of the public concerned about horses they have seen.
Around 1,700 of these cases need to be investigated in order to identify where the problems lie and whether further action needs to be taken.
Our team of 16 field officers are able to assess these issues and make suggestions as to how a horse's condition can be improved.
In cases where advice has been followed, they carry out follow-up visits to make sure that improvements have been made and are being maintained, to safeguard the welfare of the horses involved.
Another side of their work involves our loan visits officers; working together, they continuously monitor our loan horses, which have been rehomed through our Horse Loan Scheme.
Around 200 horses and ponies are removed from dangerous circumstances and taken to our centres every year.
