Emergency relief

World Horse Welfare provides emergency relief and support by rescuing, treating and helping horses and donkeys in countries facing disaster. Working in alliance with the WSPA disaster coalition, we endeavour to protect working equines and reduce the impact of these events on whole communities.
Disease control
When the lives of hundreds of horses were threatened by an outbreak of African Horse Sickness in The Gamba, we worked in collaboration with The Donkey Sanctuary, WSPA and RSPCA International to reduce the impact of the disease. We funded the purchase of essential vaccinations so that Government Veterinary Services could undertake an emergency vaccination programme (see above).

Flood damage
We delivered emergency relief when floodwaters devastated the state of Tabasco, Mexico. Working closely with IFAW and WSPA, two of our veterinary mobile clinics were dispatched as part of the rescue mission (shown right).
With more than one million residents evacuated from their homes, thousands of animals - including horses and donkeys - became stranded or were washed away. High flood waters and mudslides hampered early rescue attempts, but thanks to the dedication and skill of the vets, many horses and donkeys were saved in the aftermath of the catastrophic natural disaster.
We do not receive any government funds to support our work. We rely on the generosity of our supporters and donors. Why not find out how you can help?
