Rescuing horses

Amersham rescueWorld Horse Welfare's UK Welfare office deals with more than 33,000 calls per year, many of which are to our Welfare Hotline (08000 480180). Calls to this line are answered by trained members of staff who have knowledge of all relevant legislation, as well as horses. Some of these calls can be dealt with simply by offering advice and an explanation of the law, but many will need further investigation.

Our dedicated team of full-time field officers is there to investigate these concerns. All the field officers are highly experienced and come from a background that has provided them with a thorough understanding of the UK legal system and in-depth equine knowledge.

Many of the situations our field officers go out to can be resolved with a sympathetic ear and some timely advice. Sometimes, however, a stronger approach is necessary. If we feel that the best future for the horse is in our care, we will ask an owner to sign the horse over to us. In cases of ongoing, deliberate or repeated neglect or cruelty, our field officers will work with the RSPCA to undertake a prosecution.
