Changing practices and attitudes

Changing attitudes

At World Horse Welfare, we know that there is a great deal of passion and respect for the horse, and that welfare issues don't always arise from cruelty or intentional neglect. We want to improve horse welfare by educating and training those who own or look after horses, to leave a lasting impact on communities.

Whether in the UK or overseas, we aim to deliver sustainable solutions so that horses and their owners, benefit in the long term. This has been our approach since the charity was founded in 1927.

The in-depth knowledge of our teams extend from Britain's elite equestrian disciplines to the challenges faced by the world's poorest and most vulnerable communities.

Changing practices

By campaigning, we will help millions of horses in the UK, Europe and beyond. By educating decision-makers about numerous horse welfare issues we can have the greatest impact on the greatest number of horses, ponies and donkeys.

Of course, we couldn't do any of that without you. Why not take action now?

Our UK welfare initiatives, like the Right Weight Roadshows help people to understand the needs of their horses and improve day-to-day management.

Changing attitudes

Research and education go hand in hand. Finding out the root causes of welfare problems allows us to help horses by getting to the heart of an issue. From schoolchildren to those who neglect horses out of ignorance, we can provide a targeted education.

We reach out to communities who rely on the horse as a beast of burden, or equine professionals who only have access to outdated teaching in developing countries. We work with politicians, so that they understand the problems, and help them to develop solutions. We even offer advice to borrowers taking on our horses as part of our Horse Loan Scheme.
