Training

World Horse Welfare recognises the need to improve horse welfare worldwide. Consequently, we have developed practical, five-year programmes, teaching farriery, saddlery, nutrition and business skills, with the long-term goal of alleviating equine suffering through education.
We are currently running programmes in six countries, including Mexico, Guatemala, Romania, South Africa (Soweto) and Lesotho.
To ensure that we maximise the skills of our native instructors on our courses, we continue to develop regional training programmes throughout the world. With this in mind, we have completed a feasibility study in Honduras, with the view of starting a training programme in the second half of 2010.
As part of our commitment, we are working to establish a network of affiliates in all the countries we work in, to ensure we maintain relationships after the projects finish. Having recently completed our project in Cape Town, our affiliate - the Cart Horse Protection Association - continues to protect working cart horses from abuse and contributes to uplifting the carting community living on the Cape Flats in South Africa.
