Belwade Farm Development

In the light of recent welfare cases, we have become acutely aware of the need for expansion at our centre in Scotland, Belwade Farm. A number of cases have involved a number of horses and have stretched the farm's resources.

Belwade Farm urgently needs an indoor riding school, so horses can be exercised and rehabilitated all year round. Last winter has been particularly difficult, with temperatures in Scotland reaching -21oc, which meant that we lost time with rehabilitation programmes.

In January 2009, Aberdeenshire Council granted planning permission for the construction of the indoor school, as well as a new visitor centre and lecture hall at Belwade Farm, so we are keen to start work. The video below demonstrates what the centre will look like once the project is complete.

Once planning permission was granted we developed and then launched the Belwade Farm Silver Horseshoe Appeal to supporters in 2009 to raise funds for the vital project.

In October 2010 the building project went out to tender and after receiving several competitive tenders we appointed CHAP Construction LTD as the successful contractor. They are optimistic that the building work will progress quickly after they start and we are hopeful weather permitting that the building will be completed by the end of 2011.

These pictures were taken this winter and show some of the horses and ponies at Belwade Farm. The amount of snow on the ground shows just how much the new development is needed.
