Gift Aid

Use Gift Aid and you can increase the value of your donation at no extra cost to yourself.
For every pound you give us we can claim an extra 28p from the Inland Revenue. All you have to do is tick the correct box (see below) - it’s that simple.
- I am a UK taxpayer* and I would like World Horse Welfare to treat all donations for the previous four years and all future donations I make, until I notify you otherwise**, as Gift Aid donations.
- I am not a UK taxpayer.
*To qualify for Gift Aid, what you pay in income tax or capital gains tax must be at least equal to the amount we will claim in the tax year. (see notes below)
** Please let us know if your name or address changes or if you are no longer eligible for Gift Aid.
What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a way for charities like World Horse Welfare to boost their income by reclaiming money from HM Revenues & Customs (HMRC).
How does it work?
Essentially, all you have to do is tick a box on our donation forms and we can claim Gift Aid. We will contact the taxman to reclaim the money that you have paid as Income Tax on your donation.
For example, in order to take £10 home in your pay packet, you will need to earn £12.50 in reality, because £2.50 (20 percent) is claimed in tax (on the lower bracket). We can claim this £2.50 back as part of your donation.
You can, additionally, tick a box and claim back the tax for all donations made in the last four years. This means that we can track donations that you have made in the past and claim Gift Aid on these.
Is there anything else?
There is. HMRC are also including an extra three pence for every pound donated to reflect the recent fall in Income Tax.
The Government realised that charities would be hit hard by the fall in the rate of Income Tax in 2008 (for 22 percent to 20 percent), so they have introduced a 3p 'transitional relief' to help ease the pressure. So, for every £10 you donate, we actually receive £12.80.
Can I donate using Gift Aid? Yes, as long as you are a UK taxpayer and have earned as much in tax as you intend to give (for example, we cannot claim £2.50-worth of Gift Aid if you have not paid £2.50 in tax).
If you are paying a higher rate of Income Tax please see the HMRC website.
