Hula Carts

Hula Cart - typical cart In Lesotho, southern Africa, many working horses suffer injury and distress every day as a result of poorly made and overloaded carts.

Local people are reliant upon their horses to make a living, but they lack the skills and knowledge to care for horses effectively.

Many carts cause repeated injuries, which do not get the chance to heal, meaning that the horse’s health and condition deteriorates over time.

Working in partnership with specialist vehicle development company eRanger, World Horse Welfare has developed a solution to this problem – the Hula Cart.

Hula Cart in use

The Hula Cart has a simple to build, cost-effective design. The size of the cart prevents intolerable loads being placed on the horses pulling them and by training and equipping local people, the carts will be produced in Lesotho. To source the materials and build each cart costs just £500.

With your help, we aim to raise enough money to build and supply as many Hula Carts as possible – each cart will immediately improve the life of a horse in Lesotho.
