Our History
For nearly 100 years, World Horse Welfare has given abused and neglected horses a second chance in life. In 1927 a lady called Ada Cole was so upset by the sight of British horses being transported overseas in terrible conditions that she decided to do something about it. She started an organisation called the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH).

This organisation grew and became the charity you see today. In 2008 we changed our name to World Horse Welfare – because it explains exactly what we do. Since 1927 we have become one of the biggest and best horse welfare organisations in the world, but we are only able to do this with the help of our supporters - people like you.
There are also lots of famous people who support the work of World Horse Welfare, and help us to make more money. Take a look at the pictures below to see who supports us.
