2010 Virgin London Marathon

A huge thank you to all the wonderful marathon runners who ran for World Horse Welfare. They trained for months and worked hard to earn their sponsorship. They all have online sponsorship pages and it is still possible to support them:  Lucy Bush, Frances Plume (pictured right), Kim Raynor and Karen Spinner.

Lucy Bush wrote: "From second-hand experience, the marathon was a tough but thrilling race. There is no marathon quite like the London marathon, because the atmosphere and crowd make it an unforgettable experience. This year the memory I will hold closest to my chest is crossing the tower bridge at the 12 mile mark; there are no words to explain just how exhiliarating it was to have the crowd shouting your name and cheering you on!

"I am just so pleased that all my training and hard work has resulted in a lasting memory and £1,500 for a charity that truly deserves it. Thanks, Lucy"

Kim Raynor (left) gave us her account:

"Firstly I'd like to thank World Horse Welfare for accepting me to run for you.

"The marathon has been a journey for me from start to finish. Many times along the way I really didn't think I'd make it but for the support of my husband training alongside me and the daily visits to my horse made me remember why I was doing it and I wasn't going to give up.

"I went into the marathon having only completed about 8 miles (which I really wouldn't recommend!!!!) and with ITB syndrome (or runner's knee) in  both knees, but everyone was supporting each other. I cannot describe the pain in the last 10 miles, but not once did I think to stop - I was focused on getting to the end!

"I made it in 5hrs 30min and 7secs. I surprised myself how determined I was and if it wasn't for the amazing crowd pushing me the whole way it might of been a different story.

"The experience was truly unforgettable and I've given something back to horses."

Karen Spinner told us: "It was an amazing day, so emotional and rewarding. Unfortunately I was poorly on Saturday, and on Sunday, before the race, so I didn’t have any oomph. However I am very pleased I did it and wouldn’t rule out doing it again! As for the sponsorship, I have exceeded my target and money is still coming in!"
