World Horse Welfare investigators monitoring a UK port

Going unchecked - vulnerable horses failed at British borders

An investigation by World Horse Welfare has revealed that an unknown number of horses and ponies are leaving Britain's shores under the guise of an intended leisure or sports use - but could, in reality be sold for slaughter. We want to continue our investigations, and press for proper enforcement of the laws meant to protect horses which supporters like you have made possible. Please give now to keep our investigators on the road and speak out for Britain’s most vulnerable horses.

Please give now to keep our investigators on the road and speak out for Britain’s most vulnerable horses.

Our recent investigations have found that horses and ponies are leaving UK ports without undergoing any of the required checks on their welfare or their documentation. By not enforcing these checks, it is impossible for the enforcement agencies and government to know whether the laws passed to protect equines in movement are being complied with.

The lack of basic enforcement and other evidence we have uncovered during our investigations gives us reason to fear that many of these vulnerable horses and ponies are being sent illegally to slaughter in Europe. You can help them now by donating above.

You can also help us to ensure that the law is enforced at ports by emailing Defra and your MP here to get them to take action.

Thank you.
