Lucas: the story behind the sculpture
Lucas came into our care after being discovered in a frozen field with his mother India, who was also carrying another foal. Fortunately they were found in time and made a full recovery after coming into our Hall Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre. Lucas was then rehomed to Colleen as a happy and healthy two-year-old, where he flourished in her care and was backed to ride when he reached four years old. The pair have been going from strength to strength together ever since. Lucas was chosen as the muse for our World Horse Trail and was sculpted by acclaimed sculptor Judy Boyt earlier this year to provide the master sculpture for our World Horse Trail.
The design inspired by Lucas' story
The artist: Judi Milne
Judi made history by becoming the first female cartoonist at publisher DC Thomson. Tattooing soon became her main passion, however, and she opened her own studio in 2002. Judi has created Lucas' markings using the outline of horseshoes, which can then be filled in by members of the public, making Lucas truly The People's Horse.
