Rehomed superstar Spike continues his winning ways

Spike continues his successes, this time being crowned People's Choice Rehomed Social Media Superstar 2018!

Spike doing dressage

Rehomed pony Spike has added another success to his impressive tally, being crowned People’s Choice Rehomed Social Media Superstar 2018 with a total of 399 votes, and rehomer Pat says:

“Spike continues to amaze us with his ability, kindness and sheer huge character.”

Eight-year-old Spike was rehomed as a youngster to Pat after being rehabilitated by our dedicated team and has since gone from strength to strength. Sadly, Spike had a sorry start to life, being found in 2011 kept in a shipping container. He was emaciated and suffering from a severe lice infestation, worm burden and overgrown feet, but his transformation since then has been incredible. Spike won the Wildcard Award in our Rehomed Horse of the Year 2016 competition thanks to his impressive achievements since being rehomed by Pat and he has only continued to progress since then.

Spike before and after

Spike has very successfully turned his hoof to dressage and Pat contacted us last week with an update on his latest success:

“Just to let you know Spike won both British Dressage Elementary Silver classes at the weekend with scores of 67 and 69%  - he was amazing!!!”

Not only has Spike achieved great things in the dressage arena, he also has quite the dedicated following and Pat says:

“Everywhere we go people just absolutely love him and always come and ask about him or talk to him. He is becoming quite famous due to his appearances on social media! Spike ridden by Hayley qualified for the BD Regionals and Petplan this year at Elementary silver level. They competed at Keysoe Petplan but the occasion proved a bit too exciting for Spike this time but we are sure he will get used to bigger competitions in time! They also did their first music which was lovely.”

Our Rehome a Horse Month not only helps our horses and ponies who are currently looking for homes, it’s also a great chance to celebrate the many amazing stories of our 1,800 rehomed horses and ponies around the country. World Horse Welfare horses and ponies are competing at dressage, eventing, showjumping, showing and pleasure driving, as well as providing invaluable friendship and companionship to their rehomers and equine companions too. Spike’s transformation and subsequent successes demonstrate beautifully how much rehomed horses and ponies have to offer – and we’re sure his followers will be waiting avidly for the next instalment!
