Meet Roddy

Delightful Roddy is now looking for his new home as a project pony. Roddy is a cracking little pony who is as bold as brass, super inquisitive and nothing really fazes him. He simply adores any kind of attention and will follow the grooms around the field to demand that he be brought in. Despite his rough start in life, Roddy is a lovable lad who enjoys plenty of cuddles and kisses so will make a brilliant family pony as he has such a kind nature. He is also well behaved for the vet and farrier, excellent to worm and is good to load. Roddy has taken to his working career very well and has been out working on the long reins with a bridle, saddle and dummy, alone and in company, often babysitting the more nervous horses out on their walks. He has been sat on once by a little rider and was completely unphased by the new experience. He has also been taken out on a ride and lead hack with just his tack, and he was very well behaved in walk and trot for the handler. Roddy has also been introduced to a little jump in hand, and he had great fun. We are hoping he will be a great potential first pony as he has a super relaxed temperament to life. Roddy will have a maximum rider weight of 45kg, including the saddle. He can move around a little when being groomed so we would recommend an adult being with him when tied up, to stop any tiny toes being stood on. Roddy has been prone to leg mites, but does not like the topical treatments on his legs, so we would recommend he has injections instead if he was to get mites again. Roddy’s stomach does not cope well to changes in diet, leading to him getting an upset tummy, but we have found keeping him on brewer’s yeast and arabica gum keeps his tummy settled. We suspect this is due to his poor start in life leading to him having a poor microbiome. Roddy will happily live out all year round with mares and geldings and grows a very impressive coat to keep him cosy in the winter months. He can be extremely playful and is very good at standing up for himself with the bigger horses. Roddy has been underweight twice before, so he does need to be monitored closely to ensure his diet is balanced enough. He has maintained his weight well here, with supplementary forage in the winter and a suitable level of grazing, for a pony of his size and type in the summer. If you think that this cracking wee cob sounds like the right pony to join your family, please apply online.
