Sustainable Development Goals

A sustainable world relies on healthy working animals

Sustainable Development Goals World Horse Welfare Donkey Sanctuary

In 2015, the United Nations launched 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for all member countries to aim to reach by 2030. These include No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Access to Water, Empowering Women and Responsible Consumption and Production (see a full list of SDGs in our report here).

Through our joint work with The Donkey Sanctuary, we strive to help countries achieve the SDGs by directly linking a healthy working equid’s contribution to the welfare of the 600 million people who rely on them. It is estimated that 112 million working equids (horses, ponies, donkeys and mules) work tirelessly to support families and communities by transporting goods, firewood, rubbish and materials, as well as water and of course, people.  The usually invisible working equid is integral in the prosperity of humans, and brings great value to the world’s economy.
