Meet Mia

Sweet Mia is looking for her new home as a non-ridden companion. When Mia arrived she was heavily pregnant with her little foal Peanut, who she delivered safely a month later. Mia has been a timid donkey since she arrived and can take a little time to adjust to her new surroundings so she is looking for someone who is happy to take the time to allow her to adjust to her new handler and build up her confidence slowly, as once she has created that bond she loves to have a cuddle in the field. She is not overly keen in coming in for long periods of time but as long as she has a friend with her, she will be ok. She can sometimes plant her feet when she is unsure and does not want to go somewhere, but with some reassurance she will eventually walk on. We feel that Mia would be best suited to an adult only handler, as she has been known in the past to kick out if not happy with what is being done with her back legs, but she will always gives clear warning signs beforehand. She loves being out playing with her friends and was often seen playing with her daughter and her niece Popcorn. She is good for the farrier with a little snack to keep her occupied and though wary of the vet, she will allow them to treat her. Mia will be looking for a home with another donkey or two to keep her company as she gets very lonely with out a donkey friend. If you think Mia will be a good match for you, please apply online.

Important stuff

Mia can never be ridden or driven.

All equines in our centres are regularly assessed by a team of experts including a vet, physiotherapist and farrier, and these assessments have found that Mia is not suitable to be worked.

History

Mia came in to World Horse Welfare heavily pregnant, along side another pregnant Jenny, as part of a welfare concern.
