Meet Kauri

Sweet Kauri is now looking for her new home as a youngster. Kauri is a very sweet young mare who based on her behaviour on arrival had not had much handling done with her in her early years. Kauri is looking for someone confident and experienced in bringing on young horses who are still very green and haven't really been exposed to the world. Kauri will lead in from the field alone or with another older horse, as she can still be a little strong when leading and is still getting the hang of gate ways and how to move her body around them. Kauri has been working on remaining patient if other horses leave without her which she is getting the hang of now and will stand nicely for a groom, with a hay net to keep her occupied. She is good to worm and behaves well for the vet and farrier, but can sometimes fidget when having her back feet done, although this is improving with time. Based on her current conformation, we feel that once mature Kauri would make a nice hacking or low level schooling horse, but she will need to be assessed by a vet at four years old to decide if she can begin groundwork. If backed to ride, she will be able to carry a maximum of 15% of her ideal, healthy bodyweight. Kauri does have wolf teeth so would also need them removed before she was introduced to a bridle. Kauri thrives on routine and would be best suited to a quiet yard, as she can get upset by too much going on. She has lived with both mares and gelding and at present does not need her grazing restricted, but she will need her weight monitored as she gets older. Kauri has been in a stable but not for long periods of time and would not cope with being left alone without equine companions.
