Meet Ruffnut (Nutty)

Ruffnut or Nutty as she is known to her groom, is now looking for her new home as a non-ridden companion. On arrival it was clear that Nutty and her friends had received some handling in the past, and though wary of people at that point, it did not take them long to come round to us, with the promise of pony nuts. Initially Nutty’s groom had to take her time with introducing her to the head collar, as she was not keen on her beard being touched. She is now confident with catching and leading, though a little slow at times, but she is still not overly keen on her beard area being touched. Though wary at first it soon became apparent that Nutty was a quick learner and she has come on leaps and bounds with her general handling and care including worming, vet and farrier visits. We did start the backing process with Nutty, but she is very short and flat backed so fitting a saddle correctly would be very difficult. Though we stopped the backing process Nutty has still been going out and about for in hand walks to help with her weight loss and she has thoroughly enjoyed speaking to all the visitors on her travels, whilst also being hopeful for a sweet treat. We do not feel that Nutty will cope with being left alone in a field, but she will go in a stable for short periods of time, though she is one to bang on the stable door to let you know when she has had enough. Nutty will need her grazing restricted and weight monitored throughout the year as she is a very good doer. In the field Nutty gets along well with all her field mates and is not one to get involved with the herd politics and is happy to keep herself to herself. If you think that Nutty sounds like the mare for you, please apply online.
