Meet Hagrid

Little man Hagrid is now looking for his home as a non-ridden companion. Hagrid came in entire alongside two other Shetlands stallions after their owner was no longer able to provide the care they needed. Hagrid and his friends have since been gelded and allowed some time to let their hormone levels drop. Hagrid was a little timid when he arrived, but he has really come out of his shell since. Due to his size, he can find taller people intimidating so he sometimes needs you to come closer to his level to catch him, but once caught he is ok. Hagrid is good to handle in all ways and is well behaved for the farrier. He is, however, needle shy but has been doing some needle practice with his groom and is becoming a lot more relaxed around them, but he will need someone who is competent and willing to carry on his desensitization when he is out on loan to keep up his progress. As he has not long been gelded, he can still sometimes be quite vocal when meeting new horses, but once over the initial introduction he settles quickly. Hagrid will be looking for a gelding-only home with friends of similar size who also need their grazing restricted. If you think that Hagrid sounds like the one for you, please apply online.

Important stuff

Hagrid can never be ridden or driven.

All equines in our centres are regularly assessed by a team of experts including a vet, physiotherapist and farrier, and these assessments have found that Hagrid is not suitable to be worked.
