Meet Salma

Salma is pretty mare with a sensitive nature. Despite her age she had very little handling in the past and this is reflected in her anxious and rather aloof attitude. Although she is quite relaxed in the field, Salma stresses in a stable, so she is more suited to living out with shelter where she can come and go as she likes. With a confident and sympathetic handler Salma is generally a polite mare who wants to do what she is asked. On arrival Salma found farrier visits quite an ordeal, but with a lot of work from her groom and our farrier team she is now starting to accept this without sedation. In order to maintain consistency, we strongly recommend Salma has her feet picked out daily as part of her normal routine. Salma will require an experienced rehomer who understands the Arab temperament with the time to spend building her confidence. This should be repaid in bundles as her personality flourishes. Salma generally gets on well with her friends and she has the potential to become a valuable field companion.

Important stuff

Salma can never be ridden or driven.

All equines in our centres are regularly assessed by a team of experts including a vet, physiotherapist and farrier, and these assessments have found that Salma is not suitable to be worked.

History

Salma was one of a large group of hoses who were at risk due to the failing health of their owner. They were all virtually unhandled.
