Meet Hekla

Hekla will need an experienced handler with previous experience of handling youngsters. A person with an intertest in equine behaviour would be ideal. Considering Hekla arrived at Hall Farm completely unhandled she has progressed well, but still has a long way to go. Her big personality makes her a firm favourite with all the others in her herd. She is a curious and extremely friendly pony who is always the first to go to investigate when anyone enters the field. However, Hekla is a very insecure pony who gets anxious if she does not understand an instruction. She can become quickly overwhelmed and at these times becomes very strong. Hekla is not good to stable, even with a friend close by. Physically Hekla may have the potential to back to ride in the future but this will depend very much on how her anxiety improves with time and life experience. If backed she will require a rider with previous experience of producing horses to ride. Hekla could reach 14.0hh when mature (although this is only an estimate) and will have a maximum rider weight limit of 8.5 to 9 stones. Hekla will not be suitable for a child handler. Hekla can also provide a valuable role and be just as happy as a permanent non-ridden companion. Hekla has so much character she is sure to enrich the lives of anyone who rehomes her.

Important stuff
