Meet Baariq
Baariq or Baba as he is known on the farm has the biggest character and is such an endearing horse; it is very hard not to fall in love with Baba and his antics. Baba was worried and stressed on arrival, however he is a very clever chap and has come on brilliantly well with his handling. If calm and settled he is very well behaved but if he gets stressed about something his behaviour can become more challenging; he will generally get bargy and rub his head on his handler so will need someone experienced with more highly strung horses. Baariq was brought into work however he became uncomfortable and was treated for ulcers but remained quite reactive so is much happier as a companion. He is happy to live out full time but will require a turnout rug over winter; he would stable with company but is most content when out with his friends. Baariq loves his companions and happily mixes with mares or geldings; he doesn’t need his grazing restricted so can live with larger horses on ample grazing. Baba would love a quiet yard where he will be pampered as he can be quite reactive to loud noises and extremely busy environments. Baba was very worried about loading, but his groom has been working extremely hard and he is improving daily. He is well behaved for his feet being trimmed but is not keen on injections from the vet. Baariq’s groom has done a lot of pressure and release training with him to get him more accepting of scary things as he is a very sensitive soul. Baba may have his quirks, but he is an absolute farm favourite, and his groom adores spending time with him. He is such a fun little horse and always gives his groom a whinny when he’s brought in. Baba loves his food and enjoys doing any kind of training if snacks are involved however he does need boundaries as he gets a bit enthusiastic about getting treats. He is not for a novice handler, but the right person will fall in love with him. Baba likes to show his cheeky side as you can see from his character picture. If you think you have the right set up and experience for beautiful Baariq we would love to hear from you.
Important stuff
Baariq can never be ridden or driven.
All equines in our centres are regularly assessed by a team of experts including a vet, physiotherapist and farrier, and these assessments have found that Baariq is not suitable to be worked.
History
Baariq came into World Horse Welfare care in March 2024 with one other Arab gelding as a welfare concern.
