Meet Zara

Zara is a stunning Connemara mare that is looking for a new home as a companion pony. She is lovely to spend time with and has great manners. Zara loves people and is very easy to handle in and out of the stable. She is currently living out full time with a group of mares as she isn't keen on living with geldings. Zara is happiest when living in a herd, she becomes unsettled if she only has one horse for company. Unfortunately, Zara’s conformation and movement did not stand up to any form of work and she is much happier as a companion. She is sound and happy in the field with her friends but does need her grazing restricted during the summer. Zara can be a bit delicate during the winter and likes to have a rug on during bad weather. She is super affectionate and enjoys being pampered by her groom. Zara had problems with her foot balance and seedy toe when she first came to Belwade and again more recently so must be trimmed every 6-8 weeks to keep her comfortable. Important stuff

Zara can never be ridden or driven.

All equines in our centres are regularly assessed by a team of experts including a vet, physiotherapist and farrier, and these assessments have found that Zara is not suitable to be worked.

History

Zara arrived in our care in 2016 with a group of horses that were underweight and in some cases suffering from rain scald and mud fever having been kept in wet and muddy conditions. Zara was underweight and had not been well handled so it took some time to gain her confidence and return her back to a healthy condition.
