Meet Get Wishing (Gary)

Gary or Gazza as he’s known to the grooms, is now looking for his new home as a non-ridden companion. Gary originally came into the farm after his owner and ROR asked us to help. Gary is an affectionate big lad who just loves attention and some sweeties of course. When he first arrived, Gary struggled to understand personal space and breaks. Over time his groom did a lot of bubble work, getting him to calm down and relax when being led out and about and now he is very responsive to word commands, even when he gets a little excited. We did try to re-back Gary, but with work he became lame. After some investigating we found that he had the start of hock and fetlock arthritis. Due to this we felt that Gary deserved a full retirement and to live out with his friends. Gary is very well behaved for the vet and has allowed younger vets to practice when he has been due a vaccination or bloods. He stands nicely for the farrier with someone at his head. Gary has had abscesses in the past due to his quality of feet; we have found biotin and a regular trimming cycle works well for his feet. Ideally, he would need a field with good drainage or be brought in at night in the winter as his feet do not cope well in waterlogged fields. Gary does not need his grazing overly restricted especially in the winter months. If you think that you can offer Gary a home, please apply online.
