Meet Castle Sophie

Sophie is a very special little mare looking for her new home as a companion. Sophie was rescued along with 4 others as part of our Help for Horse Owners support service. She had a filly foal at foot and soon give birth to another little filly, Pam, who has recently been weaned. Sophie is good to handle but is quite shy and reserved by nature and she would thrive in a quiet, calm home where she can be given the time to come out of her shell and grow in confidence. Having previously been used for breeding, alongside having poor conformation, Sophie has historically had tight hamstrings. While this is resolved and her muscle tone will continue to improve now she isn’t in foal, she will need a rehomer who is happy to monitor her comfort levels and where she won’t be living in deep mud. Sophie has mild sweet itch which is managed with regular baths, creams and a sweet itch rug as needed through the spring, summer and into the autumn. She is good to have all this done when relaxed and in a routine. We have really noticed how much more interactive Sophie is with ponies of her own size, so we are looking for a home for Sophie with other Shetland companions, where she isn’t left alone and she will need very restricted grazing.

Important stuff

Castle Sophie can never be ridden or driven.

All equines in our centres are regularly assessed by a team of experts including a vet, physiotherapist and farrier, and these assessments have found that Castle Sophie is not suitable to be worked.

History

Sophie came into the centre as part of our Help for Horse Owners support service. She had a foal at foot and was in foal again. Sophie gave birth to little filly foal Pam here at the centre.
