Cocoa
Meet Cocoa
Cocoa is looking for a new home as a non-ridden companion. She is a sweet mare who has been successfully rehomed in the past so would make an excellent companion. Although she has only been turned out with mares, she may be able to live with a well-behaved gelding. Cocoa would need to have restricted grazing as she is prone to weight gain and could be stabled part-time if this was in a routine. She would, however, like to be able to see her equine friend to make her feel secure and would be best in a small yard with not too much coming and going. Cocoa loves to interact with people but, she does get worried about seeing the vet for injections however, we know that continued positive reinforcement techniques have helped with this and so a rehomer who could work with Cocoa, in readiness for these tasks, would be ideal. She has had her legs clipped previously to help with itchiness but, if these are well managed they would just need monitoring. Cocoa is excellent to groom, loves a good scratch and is very good to catch and happily leads in on her own or with another friendly pony to and from her field.
Important stuff
Cocoa can never be ridden or driven.
All equines in our centres are regularly assessed by a team of experts including a vet, physiotherapist and farrier, and these assessments have found that Cocoa is not suitable to be worked.
History
Cocoa arrived at Glenda Spooner Farm in February 2016 as part of a large prosecution case. She was being kept in unsuitable conditions, was terribly underweight and found it very difficult to walk properly, because of the poor condition of her feet. She was successfully rehomed for several years and only returned when the rehomer's circumstances changed.
