Two little Shetlands are looking for a home together, having become firm friends since arriving at Hall Farm.

Two tiny Shetland ponies named Winston and Churchill have become best friends at our Hall Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Norfolk. The pair are now seeking a loving home together, after experiencing very sad situations.

Having come into our care separately, after Winston’s owner was sadly unable to provide the care he needed due to a change in circumstances and Churchill was found living alone in unsuitable conditions, the pair quickly bonded.

Hall Farm Assistant Centre Manager Lizzie Bird explains:

“When he arrived here as a three-year-old colt, Churchill had been living without any equine company for most of his short life. He didn’t know how to be a pony properly and behaved more like a dog.

“To help Churchill learn vital social skills, we put him in with Winston, who’s a very similar size and had sadly lost his long-term companion the day before he came to us. The pair of them have since become such good friends that we now want to find them a home together.”

Winston (pictured left) and Churchill (pictured right with Rehoming Coordinator Rachel Blake) have formed a firm friendship since coming into our care.

Winston – full name Foulsham Winston – had arrived at Hall Farm as a 17-year-old stallion, so both ponies have had to learn to adapt to life as a gelding. Lizzie says:

“During their rehabilitation, we put them in with another slightly larger pony who we knew had the perfect temperament to help them learn how to be around other ponies in a little herd.

“All horses need friends, forage and the freedom to behave like a horse, so it’s really sad to think of Churchill being kept on his own for so long. It’s been wonderful to see him successfully learn how to interact with others though. He’s now a happy, healthy young pony with a bright future ahead – and a new best friend in Winston! We’d love to hear from anyone who can offer them both a home of their own.”

Rehoming is a vital part of our work, helping to make space for more horses and ponies in need to be rescued and rehabilitated. If you could offer one of our horses and ponies a loving home, check out our rehoming pages.
